Where Do You Draw The Line Between Limits and Overcontrolling?

Hi and welcome to my blog.

I started this blog so that children and parents could voice their opinion about limits vs control, and is there a difference.

Also I would like to know what you think about children having a voice in the rules of the house, chore list, etc., and if so how much that voice should be considered?

Being a little, (ok a lot) older now I've noticed how we seem to consistently give children labels. Of course everybody likes the good ones, "Oh she/he is a model student, captain of yada, yada, yada." Then there's the others, the ODD, ADD, ADHD, OCD, bipolar, depressed, post traumatic stress, and the list goes on and on, and on. It seems that if there is an issue with a child it is addressed, and if not fixed shortly they're off to the doctor and whaala they have a label. I think sometimes it's a way of saying their not out of control they have an illness.

Yes when I grew up we had labels too, but not like today. Then it was your a rebel, or flower child, stubborn brat, or whatever, but they didn't load you up with medications, and label you for life.

We all want control don't we? I mean isn't it nice to be the boss and even though you sometimes listen to different opinions you already know your going with your own plan. It doesn't leave room for debate, we don't have to justify our reasoning that's just the way it is and thats that. I can't tell you how many times I've said that, (sorry kiddo).

But what about being on the other side of the table with the boss. You've done your homework, showed good reasoning and justified every step of your plan, only to have it shot down with no explanation, not even a thanks for the effort.

If you've read the first article on the links you'll understand a little more why I think it is so important for children to have a say in the rules that are set regarding the way they live their life. Hold on kids I'm not saying that you get to make them I'm saying give a REASONABLE, JUSTIFIABLE, debate that anyone with good sense would have to agree, (and that doesn't include just your friends) and have a mature discusion about it.

Standing up for what you believe in builds character and helps create who we are and where we want to be in life. It makes us feel that we are worthy of being heard, respected, and cared for.

You want a little respect have a good debate about a topic of interest for everyone. I promise there is nothing that makes me respect someone more than when they take the time and effort to do the research showing how passioate they are about something.

For a month I studied nothing but raising a baby deer so I could help save him. He's a big boy now. But did you know they need yogurt and fresh dirt to eat. It's amazing the things you learn when something really interests you

Taking orders from someone constantly doesn't leave room for mistakes which is sometime how we have to learn. As parents we always try to give them the easy way out trying to protect them when sometimes they just need to learn the hard way. It prepares them for some of lifes disappointments later on

Children grow up quickly these days. Shoot they're fighting for their country before they're old enough to drink Maybe they need to take on a little responsobility and decision making before they start making ones that will effect their own family.
